A poster child for the circular economy, Avallon Bio Energie has a dual aim: to generate energy and to transform organic matter into fertiliser for crop fields. In addition to processing biowaste from “a radius of 60 to 80 km”, it produces biogas that fuels Avallon and will eventually power a fleet of lorries as well. The plant processes 20,000 tonnes of organic matter a year, injecting 180 Nm³ CH₄/h into the GRDF network.
